Thanks for checking out my travel guide. My husband Robby and I visited Kauai in August of 2017. This was the first of 3 islands we visited in Hawaii. We had a wonderful time exploring the beautiful beaches, rainforests, mountains, and deserts of Kauai.
Here are our favorite places in Kauai.

Map of Our Favorite Places
I love a good map. They help me plan out our vacations so we know where to stop a long the way. I created this one below to show you where our favorite places are located.
Favorite Places, Explained
Duke’s Kauai
Dukes is located steps from Kalapaki beach in a secluded cove. The gorgeous views and delicious eats were very memorable for us. We got the ahi Poke tacos at the Barefoot Bar where we met some locals who told us about Wailua Falls.
Wailua Falls
Hawaii.com describes Wailua Falls as “one of the few waterfalls you don’t have to hike to for miles in order to get up close and personal. Some people, however, do take a rather dangerous and steep trek down to the bottom of the falls. This is not an advisable adventure, especially when you can capture the beauty of the waterfall from safely above.” The view from the bottom is spectacular but I wouldn’t recommend it if you are not in for a very steep hike and hanging on to ropes.
Lava Lava Beach Club
Live music nightly from 6-9 PM. We walked on the beach form our hotel to the club, ate dinner, and enjoyed some music.
Kipu Ranch Adventure Tours
ATV’s and banana bread. We had a great time riding off the beaten path on this active cattle ranch while hearing about the many movies that were filmed on the property.
Java Kai in Old Kappa Town
Our favorite coffee stop. We literally went there every morning before we ventured out. One morning I got the Beetnik off of their menu and was so blown away I had to capture the moment. The Beetnik is a “toasty bagel with cream cheese, housemade pesto, local beets, local sprouts.” I also got the Thai Coffee. It reminded me of the Black Tie from Peets Coffee here in Northern VA.
Kauai Beer
A neighborhood microbrewery located on Rice street in Lihue. I got the Bicentennial Double IPA and the OG Wheat. My husband Robby got the Bicentennial Double IPA and the Beer Co IPA. Follow me on Untappd here. Follow Robby on Untappd here.
Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort
This hotel was a great first stop on our honeymoon trip. We received a honeymoon package with champagne and fresh fruit from a family member the second day of our stay. We stopped at Kauai Juice Co. for fresh “starburst” juice to make mimosas. Starburst juice is made from strawberries, pineapples, and oranges.
Tunnels Beach
Big turtles and big tunnels. We rented our snorkel gear on our ride up from Hanalei Surf Co. in Hanalei Town. On our way back we returned to Hanalei Town to return our gear and stopped for a quick bite at Tahiti Nui. The Mai Tai’s were delicious.
Glass Beach
Glass beach is located in an industrial area in Kauai. It is made up of mostly sea glass that formed after years of discarded glass. It is a neat stop a long the way to Waimea Canyon.
Waimea Canyon
Hawaii.com describes Waimea Canyon as “the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” It contains 3,000-foot tall cliffs with lush green foliage amidst red pops of color, sprinkled with waterfalls.
