Chicken sausage crumbles in a silky gravy poured over flaky biscuits. This biscuits and gravy recipe is my go to weekend breakfast meal.
How this recipe came about
When I was 21, my Dad gave me money to go on a week long vacation to Key West, Florida with my then boyfriend (now husband) Robby. We stayed at a hotel that served us breakfast every morning. That breakfast was always biscuits and gravy. While I wish the hotel had a little bit more breakfast variety, I had never had biscuits and gravy before and I have loved it ever since.

Instructions
Sausage Gravy
- Cook sausage on medium high heat. Mix in flour and spices. Add flour and spices and cook until the meat soaks up the flour and no more white shows. Pour in the milk and chicken broth. Cook 5-10 minutes until gravy thickens as desired. If the gravy is too thick add some water.
Biscuits
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Cut butter into pea size pieces and place in freezer for about 15 minutes. Combine dry ingredients. Mix in milk add butter. Clumps are ok – they turn into flaky layers if the butter is cold enough. Work quickly. Flatten on surface and cut biscuits using a biscuit cutter. A glass with thin edges will work if you don't have a biscuit cutter. Do not twist when cutting. This will make your biscuits dense. Bake for 10 min.
- Remove biscuits from oven, pour gravy over biscuits, garnish with parsley (optional) and serve.
